NGC6888 - Crescent Nebula
In the constellation of Cygnus. It is thought that, some time ago, a supernova exploded amid its immense hydrogen fields: the remains of that explosion are visible today and are known as the Crescent Nebula (NGC 6888). This immense expanding bubble (16 light-years across), destined to fade away over the course of a few millennia, contains regions rich in oxygen atoms, which give it its characteristic blue-green colour: these seem to wrap like a shield around the filaments of hydrogen ionised by the very star that caused the violent ejection of material.
