M45 - The Pleiades
The Pleiades (also known as the Seven Sisters, or by the designation M45 in Charles Messier's catalogue) are an open cluster visible in the constellation of Taurus. This relatively nearby cluster (440 light-years away) contains several stars visible to the naked eye; while only five or six of the brightest can be seen from city surroundings, up to twelve can be counted from a darker location. All of its stars are wrapped in faint reflection nebulae, best observed in long-exposure photographs taken with sizeable telescopes.
